Boat Diving at Porthkerris

The Boats
Our boats are Celtic Cat, A 45ft Catamaran and Predator which is a 6½ metre RIB.  They are all fully licensed and coded to MCA standards. 

The Rib has a 20 mile operating radius and Celtic has a 60 mile operating radius.  The boats are coxed by dive centre staff who are certified and experienced RYA skippers;  they also hold the minimum qualifications of PADI Instructor, First Aider, Oxygen Provider and GMDSS/VHF radio operator.  They have vast experience of diving and navigating in our waters. 

The prime site of Porthkerris means that the dive sites in Falmouth Bay and the Manacles area can be reached in only minutes by our boats. This means less time sat on the boat (important if you don’t have good sea legs) and ultimately means you will be in the water quicker.  The sites on the Lizard are a little further away, but still reachable in a short time by Celtic Cat.

Celtic Cat
Celtic Cat is licensed to carry 12 divers and will give you a very comfortable, stable ride to the nearby dive sites.  The wheelhouse of the boat, where the skipper sits in an elevated position, gives him an excellent all round view of the diving area and of the boat by use of a CCTV camera. 

The wheelhouse contains all the latest navigational equipment in order to move safely and quickly between the dive sites, and to drop you directly onto the right spot. 

The boat has a galley area to get hot drinks, an onboard toilet and a good sized dive deck with benches wide enough to sit on for kitting up.  It also has stand up kitting up platforms on the outside deck, benches to sit inside to shelter from the wind or rain! and a dry area to put kit. 

The access from the boat to the water is very good with 2 good size platforms, one each side at the stern of the boat and entry back onto the boat is by a double lift. 

Predator
A very stable RIB licensed to carry up to 12 divers.  It has wide tubes to sit on and a waist height kitting up table in the centre of the boat. 

The boat is equipped with all the necessary navigation equipment in order to move safely and quickly between the dive sites, and to drop you directly onto the right spot.  Predator has a top speed of 30 knots so you can get to the nearby dive sites very quickly. 

Predator was re-fitted in March '07 with new Twin Yamaha 100 hp 4 stroke engines (no more smelly 2 stroke fumes!!!).
