Andy - thank you for taking the time to enable me to complete two specialities. My navigation will be useful in keeping my dad on the right rack in quarries. My PPB because then I am not hugging the bottom, unlike my dad. I can even remember what PPB stands for and how many degrees northeast south and west is. Clever me! You are a good teacher and I look forward to more diving with you
Mike - thank you for the ride on the quad bike, broom, broom. I can not wait until next time when I get another turn. My sisters were extremely jealous. Maybe you would like to dive with me next time am I am down.
Dave - thank you. For filling our tanks and making the outstanding hot chocolates with cream and marshmallows, way better than mum's but don’t tell her we may upset her feelings.

Dave Simkiss - Mar 08

It was back in August 1998 that I first visited and dived at Porthkerris after recommendations from fellow Divers, and I haven't looked back since. There really is something very special about this little part of Cornwall that keeps me returning year after year (sometimes 3-4 times a year), so what is it? Well it's a combination of many things, stunning scenery, real people who are friendly, knowledgeable and genuinely interested in you, great pubs, beer (Doombar) and of course outstanding diving.

Looking back through my Log book I am amazed to see the huge variety of Reefs and Wrecks that I have had the pleasure of diving from at Porthkerris, there truly is something for everyone from complete novice to very experienced. Whether it's the outstanding House Reef of Dawana Rocks (the best shore dive I have done in the UK), or the more challenging Reefs of the famous Manacles, (Vase, Raglan, Pen Win Wall), added to the superb drift dives and more Wrecks than you can think of, then you really do have every sort of dive you could wish for. Couple all this with the stunning marine life, ranging from the tiny Jewel Anemones to the huge and illusive Basking Sharks (I've still yet to see one!), then you start to realise why Porthkerris is so special.

Whether you are diving from the Cat or a Rib you know you are in excellent hands, with both Mike and Andy (or Andrea depending on dress code!!) as they are outstanding skippers, who give superbly clear and accurate dive and safety briefs, and never seem to fail in dropping you exactly where you want to be. This coupled with a slick operation on shore from the staff running the shop, beach, galley etc. you couldn't ask for any more, (except a Basking Shark!).

So to sum up this place has the lot, a combination of many different special qualities, that together gives an excellent finished product.

Don't leave it too long before you pay them a visit and add them to you favourites list.

Here we are at the beginning of the 2008 season and I can't wait to get back to Porthkerris for my 4th year. Our club have, of course, been coming here for longer than I remember and it's not surprising given the excellent standard of diving and underwater scenery on offer.

It was the wife and I that were lucky enough to get in with that basking shark on Monday what a thrill it was brill. The wife and I are still gushing now (nearly a week later). And then to have the treat of the anemones on Vase Reef what can we say it was awesome, what a place.

Cheers to Andy (what a great instructor), Mike, Dave, Maggie, Tamsin and bump you made it a great week for us both at Porthkerris. All the best for the future see you soon.

Hydronaughts Dive Club, Reading, Berkshire - July 07

I would just like to say a big thank you to everyone on your team who made our first club trip to Porthkerris a resounding success. You made us all feel very welcome and the level of service was excellent.

If you could pass on our special thanks to Andy for being a brilliant and highly amusing skipper and also to Dave for being the most patient and laid back person I have ever met. We will be back as a club next year and I expect every year from then on. The diving was excellent with lots of people already enquiring as to when the next trip will be.
